Caldas de Monchique (water factory) is the starting point and goal of monchique Mountain Marathon 2019.
The first stage continues to the Castle of Nave and Casais (the first support station is next to the bakery). Then we climb to the Silvestre ravine and Vale Figueiras that we cross. Next to Almarjão (towards Marmelete) we reach the second support station with hot and cold drinks. We climb in the third stage and pass next to the wind park towards Fóia (Via Algarviana), to the highest southern point in Portugal (902 M). We have lunch at the peak of Fóia (22km – third station). Afterwards we will descend from Fóia to Monchique passing by the Convent. In Monchique, in the Intermarché parking lot (at the end of the fourth stage) we arrive at the fourth support station. Then we use the Via Algarviana trail to climb – passing Ginjeira until we reach the second peak to Picota. (776 M, fifth station) We descend once more, passing Corte Grande and Fornalha, where we wait for the penultimate (sixth) support station with drinks and snacks. Now we are almost at the end. We have only seven more km until Caldas de Monchique where the circle closes. The whole route is 42.6 km long.
