Carlos Glória (40) and Elizangela Silva (32) are passionate about nature. Zen Trekk is a tourist activity company. We go walking in peace and love, aware of the beauty that surrounds us. Nature must be appreciated and contemplated with all our senses. This is where we derive the energy we need to feed our essence, self-discovery and inspiration to follow the path ahead of us.
Lúcio Feio was born and brought up in the town of Monchique, in a family that has lived in these hills for several generations. He is passionate about his native region and is profoundly knowledgeable about the area. Founder and manager of the company Alternativtour, he has been organising activities whose watchword is sustainability: walks; cycle tourism; canoeing; climbing for beginners, and other outdoor activities.
Reinaldo Alves was born and is resident in Monchique. He always felt a close affinity with the countryside and nature. He has been working in the field of activities for tourists (as a nature guide at his company Monchique Passeios na Serra) for five years. The routes he presents are original almost in their entirety; he developed some of them himself on the ground, always giving priority to the use of goat tracks and trails that are less well used.
Uwe Heitkamp, (born 1959), a journalist and story-teller, has lived in Monchique since 1990. He’s the publisher of the trilingual magazine ECO123. His annual ecological goal is to have a footprint of less than 3,000 kg of CO2; he has given up flying, works as a self-sufficient farmer and produces his own solar power, for his electric car too. Yes we can!
Jürgen Kahlisch, aged 60, has lived in the region of Marmelete for some 30 years. Trained as an educator, he became a craftsman here, specialising in renovating old farm houses. Hiking is one of his passions. In 2007 he completed a six-month hiking trip from his home town Berlin to Santiago de Compostella.
Pete Siegfried is a professional geologist. That has led him all over the planet in search of exotic minerals including the raw materials for ensuring the success of the sustainable energy industry. Alexandra Speiser, MSc degree in Geology and Paläontology and a Master of Philosophy in Environmental Science. Both are living in Monchique, paradise of the “sienito nefelínico”.
